Oh, hey, there! Captain Roger Victor here. And I'm starting a new segment called Ask the Captain, where you send in your questions and I'll give you the answers. So on this week's Ask the Captain, the question is: What is up with the stripes on my uniform? What do they mean? Why do I have four? Why do some have three?
Well, it's pretty simple. The stripes differentiate between who is the captain and who is the first officer.
Wow wow, now that's not fair to them. First officers are pilots, just like captains are pilots, but the stripes mean two different things. So for a captain, again, I've got four stripes. For a first officer, they only have three.
The three stand for words. Now the stripes, each stripe means one word. So on the first officer, it means "not in charge". That's right. Three stripes, three words: not in charge.
Now for a captain, we have four stripes. That's right. That means "the one to blame".
That's right. If anything goes wrong, we are the one to blame. So next time you're wondering, or somebody asks you what the stripes mean, you know what to tell them. For three stripes, first officers, not in charge. For captains, it means the one to blame.
Tune in next week for another question! Bye!
